Marion County and Volcanoes Baseball present 8th annual “Striking Out Meth in Marion County” Posted Wednesday, May 22, 2013, 11:00 a.m.SALEM, OR – Marion County Commissioner Patti Milne is pleased to announce that McDonald’s of Salem-Keizer has committed to sponsoring the Eighth Annual “Striking Out Meth in Marion County” at the Most Valuable Player sponsorship level for 2013.
McDonald’s generous sponsorship will allow Boys & Girls Club and Salvation Army Kroc Center to bring up to 200 youth to the summer highlight event set for Friday, July 26 at Volcanoes Stadium. This is the third year that locally-owned McDonald’s restaurants have served as the event’s top sponsor. read more...Area Authors Encouraged to Participate in the Marion County FairPosted Wednesday, May 22, 2013, 11:00 a.m.Salem, OR - Area authors are encouraged to bring their book(s) to sign and sell at the Marion County Fair Authors’ Tables. The fair will be held July 11-14 at the Oregon State Fairgrounds. Registration is currently open for authors to reserve a spot. A $60 participation fee covers use of tables, chairs, and up to two (2) four-day fair passes. Authors may sell their books along with any other small promotional materials relating to his or her book(s). read more...

Community Dispute Resolution Grants Available - Due April 29, 2013Posted Thursday, March 28, 2013, 9:45 a.m.Salem, OR – Marion County and the State of Oregon, acting through the University of Oregon School of Law, are initiating the application and selection process for grant funds available to eligible community dispute resolution programs in Marion County. Pending final funding authorization by the Oregon Legislature, grant funds in Marion County will be approximately $84,371 for the two-year grant period from July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2015. read more...

National Public Health Week, April 1-7, 2013Features Photo Project Showcasing Local Community MembersPosted Monday, March 25, 2013, 2:30 p.m.Salem, OR –With National Public Health Week just around the corner, the Marion County Health Department (MCHD) will be showcasing what public health looks like in our area and celebrating community members participating in public health with a photojournalism project and trivia contest.
Health Educators from MCHD Prevention Services, equipped with cameras, have been roaming the county to find examples of everyday people engaged in everyday activities reflecting public health in action all around us. During the week of April 1-7, these photos will be posted on the official MCHD Facebook and Twitter pages at various times each day based on a daily theme. read more...
2013 Earth Day Poster Contest WinnersPosted Monday, March 25, 2013, 12:15 p.m.Salem, OR - The grand winner of the 14th Annual Oregon Garden Earth Day Fair poster contest has been selected by a local panel of judges. Heidie Ambrose, a 12th grade student at Silverton High School, will have her work used in this year’s poster and other promotional ads for the upcoming Earth Day event taking place on April 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at The Oregon Garden in Silverton. Admission is free.
This year’s theme—Earth Day, Every Day—drew over 200 entries from students throughout the area. Commercial exhibitor booth space can be purchased for a one time fee of $300-$350 depending on the booth location; this fee covers all four days of the fair.
An exhibitor can choose a booth location in the indoor air conditioned exhibit hall or outside along the main promenade. The booth fee includes the free use of one table and two chairs and access to a standard electrical outlet. read more...
