Marion County Dog Shelter Operating Hours to Change in January Posted on December 17, 2010 at 1:00 p.m.(Salem, OR) – Beginning Monday, January 10, 2011, the Marion County Dog Shelter will be closed to the public on Mondays. The shelter will be open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Shelter staff will continue to be available on Mondays to take dog control complaints by phone and return dogs to their owners from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. However, dog adoptions and dog licensing will not be offered on Mondays. Those wishing to purchase dog licenses on a Monday may do so at the Public Works main campus or at many area veterinary clinics. read more...

Tornado Touches Down in South Marion CountyPosted on December 15, 2010 at 8:10 a.m. (Salem, OR) – Today at approximately 11:40 a.m. a tornado touched down at the south end of the city of Aumsville in Marion County. The tornado traveled northeast and lifted up near Highway 22.
Multiple buildings in town have been damaged or were destroyed with the most damage reported near the areas of Main and 6th Streets in Aumsville. There are numerous trees and power lines down in the area. Gas and power officials are on scene along with crews from Aumsville Public Works. read more . . .

Silverton Together and the Marion County Children and Families Commission are collaborating to apply for a Parenting Hub Grant from the Oregon Community Foundation. The purpose of this meeting will be to explain the nature and objectives of the grant, solicit input from interested parties and stakeholders, and answer questions. In 2010, the Marion County Children and Families Commission launched the Parent for the Future project in order to make parenting resources and information more available in our county. The purpose of this meeting is to gather information to guide and inform plans to increase parenting education in our county. Input from partners, stakeholders and the general public will be very important in helping us to meet the needs of Marion County. read more...
NOVEMBER 2010Multi-Jurisdictional Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan Posted on December 8, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. (Salem, OR) – Marion County is currently in the process of updating the existing multi-jurisdictional Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan. This work is being performed in cooperation with the Oregon Partnership for Disaster Resilience and Oregon Emergency Management utilizing funds obtained from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Pre-Disaster Mitigation Grant Program. With re-adoption of the plan, Marion County will maintain its eligibility to apply for federal funding towards natural hazard mitigation projects. Free Flu Vaccination Clinic on November 4, 2010Posted on October 26, 2010 at 12:40 p.m.The Marion County Health Department, in collaboration with Silverton Emergency Management Advisory Committee (EMAC), Silverton Hospital Network and the Woodburn School District, will be providing approximately 1,500 free doses of seasonal flu vaccine at three locations in Woodburn on November 4th, 2010. FluMist® nasal flu vaccine will be available from 3:30-6:00pm at Lincoln Elementary School, Valor Middle School, and Woodburn High School while supplies last.
