2012 Press Releases FEBRUARY County Health Department to Host Community Poverty Simulations Posted: February 1, 2012 at 3:30 p.m. Salem, OR – The Marion County Health Department, in cooperation with community partners, will be hosting two Community Poverty Simulation and poverty awareness training opportunities this spring. The simulation and training will be held March 13 and April 30 in Salem and will run from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Participants will have the opportunity to assume the role of a low-income family member living on a limited budget or participate as a service provider to low income individuals. read more... JANUARY County Hotline Available for Flood Damage Reporting Posted: January 25, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. Salem, OR – Marion County Emergency Management is asking residents in the unincorporated areas of Marion County to report flood damage at (503) 588-5108 or by e-mail at kkrowland@co.marion.or.us  . County officials must submit an Initial Damage Assessment report by Friday, January 27, to Oregon Emergency Management. read more... Marion County Crews Respond to Major Flooding Posted Thursday, January 19, at 10:30 a.m. Heavy rains and melting snow have created high water and flooding issues in many areas of Marion County. Marion County Public Works crews, assisted by Inmate Crews, are working to clear debris and open roadways. The City of Turner has been especially hard hit. Marion County has dispatched deputies, work crews, five MCSO boats and another from the Salem Fire Urban Boat Water Rescue to assist the City of Turner. read more...  Brown’s Island Landfill Expected to Close Due to Weather Posted Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 4:45 p.m. Salem, OR - Marion County’s Brown’s Island Landfill located at 2895 Faragate Street South, Salem, is expected to close sometime Thursday or Friday due to predicted flooding of the access road to the site. Once closed, the landfill will remain closed until the access road reopens. There is no flooding expected at the landfill.
