The Board of Commissioners will ensure consistent content of the bylaws of Marion County advisory boards and committees as outlined in Administrative Policy B-17, Bylaws of Advisory Boards & Committees. Bylaws of advisory boards and committees will closely mirror the elements contained in the Bylaws Template created by the Board of Commissioners.
New boards and committees will create bylaws as directed in the Bylaws Template for Marion County Advisory Boards and Committees. Bylaws for existing board/committees must be measured against the Bylaws Template and revised to include any missing components. A Bylaws Checklist can be used to determine missing or vague components. Advisory Board Model Bylaws is available to assist with wording in the development of bylaws.
Bylaws will be revised as needed and submitted for review and approval by the Board of Commissioners or its designee. The committee chair will submit committee bylaws every three years for review and approval of the Board of Commissioners.
Limited duration committees such as task forces, ad hoc committees, work groups and other project driven groups may be created by the Board or the County Administrator for a specific period of time. For purposes of consistency all limited duration committees will submit bylaws within 30 days of the first regular meeting to the Board of Commissioners or the County Administrator. If the term of the limited duration committee is for less than 90 days, no bylaws need to be created or submitted to the Board of Commissioners or the County Administrator.
