Volunteer application forms are available for regular volunteer positions and for advisory board positions.Alcohol & Drug Planning CommitteeThe Marion County Local Alcohol & Drug Planning Committee is looking for new members who can represent the interests of one or more minority cultural groups, including the Hispanic, Native American and/or Russian communities, rural communities and education and physical health. DA - Sexual Assault Response AdvocateMarion County District Attorney- Victim Assistance Division seeking applicants for sexual assault response advocates. Must be at least 18 years of age, have reliable tranportation (not public transit), a valid driver's license, and a caring, compassionate demeanor with a non-judgemental attitude. Training will be provided, (once per year in January). Candidates will have a criminal background check, and driving history check. Teaching Manual EditorHelp develop teaching manuals from existing curricula. Compile a variety of written work while editing for voice, format and style. Some research required to confirm the accuracy of citations. Must be able to work with others and receive constructive feedback. Credit will be given in the publication for the editor's contribution.Forensic Services Aide Learn and use the Henry Classification System to file fingerprint cards, mix and use chemicals and/or powders to develop fingerprints on evidence; use keyboard and computer skills to access information on a computer; occasionally may have an opportunity to visit a crime scene.Must be a college student with a major or minor in forensic science or criminal justice; completion of a chemistry class preferred. Able to work Mondays and Tuesdays. Must be able to stand to file and lift up to 20 pounds.Dog Walkers and Outreach Event Volunteers for the Dog Shelter Dog walkers can come as often as desired during business hours and walk the adoptable shelter dogs. Outreach event volunteers help staff a booth or table at community events. The volunteers may take adoptable dogs to the event on some occasions. Shelter Application Form Youth Mentor Opportunities (mentor position description)Marion County Health Department New Solutions is looking for volunteer mentors to work flexible hours with a child and/or youth with mental health needs and provide support and encouragment by building a relationship through community activities. Volunteer mentors must be able to meet criminal background and driving requirements, have a personal cell phone and be committed for at least six months. Sheriff's Office Opportunities for volunteers. Activities include, but are not limited to: traffic control at various events, security at various events, crime prevention presentations, assist deputies on ride-alongs, compete at Junior Police Olympics, assist with prevention education to peers, crime scene security, and community policing.
Cadets must obtain a driver's license within six months of turning 16 years old or becoming a Cadet; have an acceptable driving record; be free from drug or alcohol use; not participate in criminal activities; and be enrolled in school and maintain a minimum 2.5 grade point average. Cadets must complete required law enforcement training components after acceptance.Advisory Board Openings (Application form)A complete list of Marion County advisory boards is available. Applicants must generally be residents of Marion County who are at least 18 years old.
Oregon law provides that one holder of public office and two non-office holding citizen members are appointed to serve from October 15 through June 30. Marion County, as provided by law, has non-office holding members serve in the place of the office-holding member. A one-day training session is required and is typically conducted in January. The board hears and makes determinations on appeals from February through April 15, meeting an average of three days per week. Due to the large time commitment, board members are offered some reimbursement. Applicants should be at least 18 years old and residents of Marion County. Experience with and knowledge of current property values is helpful.
The 16-member council meets once a month to develop, review and recommend plans that support an integrated, financially sound waste management system which protects public health and the environment. Meetings are generally held on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
