From reducing the number of children in foster care to increasing books available to disadvantaged children, the Commission develops creative solutions to complex issues.   Grounded in research and fueled by passion, Children and Families Commission members employ their influence to improve the lives and futures of our children and youth. The Commission saves public money by involving the whole community. Together we are creating a brighter future! We are committed to breaking barriers, building capacity, and responding to community needs to maximize the life success of every  child in Marion County. Core Responsibilities of The Commission Planning:  Facilitates the Coordinated Comprehensive Planning in Marion County The Coordinated Comprehensive Planning process engages communities in assessing their needs, assets and strengths, and examining their capacity to support children, youth, and their families. Community partners come together for this collaborative process that produces an integrated, coordinated plan and ensures that the whole service delivery system is more collaborative, more inclusive, and more effective. Mobilize Communities to Support Children and Families Since its creation in 1993, Marion County Children and Families Commission has been committed to engaging local communities in planning and decision making. Create and Sustain a Family Support System Today’s new breed of services, often labeled family support, is gaining momentum. This approach replaces past orientations that focused on deficit-oriented services and shifts the emphasis to a wellness model that builds on the families strengths, intervening to support families (not individuals) before problems arise.
