The County Clerk administers the Board of Property Tax Appeals. If, as a property owner, you wish to appeal the amount of value placed on your property by the Assessor's office, for the current assessment year, complete the application form found below. The filing period begins when tax statements go out and ends January 3, 2012. Forms may be mailed, hand delivered, faxed or emailed to the Marion County Clerk's Office. Forms slid under the door after 5:00 pm on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 will be considered untimely and dismissed.

Important Change for 2011!
House Bill 2478 amends ORS 305.403(1). If you file an Industrial Property Return with the Oregon Department of Revenue, you must file your appeal with the Magistrate Division of the Oregon Tax Court.

Petition forms are listed below.  You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader to download the forms to your computer. They may be printed, filled out and filed with the county clerk.

NOTE: The forms are also available in a fillable format and can be completed online. Please review the fill-in forms instructions for detailed instructions. Use the tab key or curser to navigate the "fillable" forms once it is open. When completed these forms may be printed, signed and delivered to the County Clerk's Office. Don't forget to attach your evidence.

You may also wish to contact the Assessor's office and request a review of your property prior to the filing deadline.


Real Property Petition, 150-310-063. Use this form to appeal the value of your real property land and buildings, manufactured structures, or industrial machinery and equipment.

Personal Property Petition, 150-310-064. Use this form to appeal the value of your business personal property or your floating property.

Petition of Waiver of Late Filing Penalty, 150-310-065. Use this form to appeal the penalty assessed for the late filing of a real or personal property return.

Notice of Session

Hearings

Hearings begin after the first Monday in February and ending no later than April 15. The schedule is dependent on the number of petitions received. If you wish to be present at the hearing a notice of the time and date will be sent to you at least five days prior to your hearing. Indicate on your petition any times/dates you would not be able to attend. Every attempt will be made to honor your request. Hearings are held to about 15 minutes in length. If you do not wish to attend the hearing, one will be held in your absence. It is important that all evidence and documentation be submitted with your petition. The board often has questions and although your attendance is not required, it is preferred. Hearings are held in the Commissioners Hearing Room at 1115 Commercial St NE, Salem, OR 97301.
