Dear Parent,

As you prepare for summer vacation when your student will be
out of school, we want to alert you to a danger that might be in your very own home: prescription medications. Medicine getting into the wrong hands is a growing problem. You can keep your
family safe by following these simple steps:

Lock up all prescription and over-the-counter medicines, or keep them out of sight in a safe place.

Dispose of unwanted, leftover, or old medications by taking them to a secure drop site. Visit www.Drxugsafe.org to find a location near you where you can take old medicine. Do not flush medicine down the toilet.

Talk to your kids and teens about the risk of prescription drug and over-the-counter medicine abuse. Many youth wrongly believe these types of drugs are safer than illicit drugs, but they are not.

Spend time with your children, get to know their friends, and talk to other parents. Many teens have said that the support of their families kept them from doing drugs.
