Marion County Dog Services
Marion County Dog Services operates Marion County's dog shelter located in Salem with the mission of serving and protecting dogs and communities throughout Marion County. The staff members are tasked with enforcing Marion County dog licensing and control ordinances; promoting humane treatment of dogs; providing shelter and care for stray dogs until they are reunited with their families or adopted; educating residents on quality dog care; and providing excellent customer service.
Recently, the Oregon Legislative Assembly passed a bill that also requires Dog Services to register all animal rescues (not just dogs) that have legal custody of ten or more animals in a year and accept donations of any type. Registrations are handled at Dog Services and staff members are educating community rescue organizations about this new requirement and are prepared to assist qualifying animal rescues to be in compliance.
The work of Marion County Dog Services would not be possible without the several volunteers that assist the shelter in caring for the dogs or the numerous donations received. If you would like to license your dog or rescue entity,
adopt a dog,
volunteer, or
provide donations to assist us in the care of the dogs that come to the shelter, please contact us at (503) 588-5233 or send an email to

We are proud to feed our homeless pets Science Diet brand pet food through a partnership with Hill's Food, Shelter & Love program.
The Marion County Dog Shelter is now EarthWISE certified. This designation is given to organizations who commit to observe environmentally-friendly practices in their facilities. Now we're dog AND Earth-friendly!
