Brooks Neglect Dogs at Marion County Dog ShelterAre Up For Adoption on Wednesday, February 13
Marion County Dog Shelter has been caring for and sheltering 26 dogs rescued from one of the largest dog neglect cases in Oregon history. On February 13, MCDS will offer 7 of these dogs for adoption in the hopes they will begin a new happy chapter in their lives. This group of dogs is among the healthiest of the rescued dogs now at MCDS who were recently removed from a warehouse outside Salem. Animal cruelty charges are pending against the owners of the dogs, who recently relinquished ownership of the animals to the Oregon Humane Society (who relinquished ownership of these dogs to MCDS). More of the rescued dogs will be made available to adopters in the near future, as their medical conditions improve.
The dogs were rescued January 13 by Oregon Humane Society, Marion County Dog Shelter, and the Marion County Sheriff's Office from a warehouse in Brooks, just outside of Salem. Many of the dogs were extremely underweight and lived in small crates that were stacked on top of each other.
Marion County charged the three individuals who operated Willamette Valley Animal Rescue with 10 counts of first-degree animal neglect, 10 counts of second degree animal neglect and one count of attempting to tamper with physical evidence.
All Dogs on Road to Recovery
All the rescued dogs have received treatment for a variety of medical issues, including parasites, skin conditions and stomach issues. All of the dogs are on the road to recovery.
Adoption Process on February 13thThe adoption process for the dogs begins at 10 am on February 13; the regular opening time for the Marion County Dog Shelter. All potential adopters must complete an adoption application and an interview with an adoption counselor. The dogs will not be adopted to anyone currently affiliated with Willamette Animal Rescue, whose officers are now facing neglect charges.
The shelter is located at 3550 Aumsville Hwy SE, Salem, Oregon 97317. Directions here.
