LICENSE SUSPENSION
A parent who owes over $2,500 in past due child support with no payments in the recent past may have their drivers or other state-granted license suspended. To avoid suspension after the notice is sent, they must contact our office within 30 days and sign and comply with an agreement requiring regular payments.
After a license is suspended, it may be reinstated if our office is contacted and a substantial child support payment is made. The individual may have to pay a reinstatement fee to the licensing agency such as the Department of Motor Vehicles. The license is subject for resuspension if regular future payments are not made.
United States passports may be restricted for individuals owing over $2,500 in child support. Usually, the arrearage must be paid in full before a passport restriction will be lifted.
