Marion County Community and Provider Services (CAPS) assists Oregon Health Plan (OHP) Members who are assigned to the managed behavioral healthcare organization, Mid-Valley Behavioral Care Network (MVBCN), and looking for mental health services within the area. To assist Members in navigating through the mental health system we've compiled a list of those questions most frequently.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) by OHP Members

Where can I go to get mental health services?
As an Oregon Health Plan (MVBCN) member, you are able to see any MVBCN provider listed in this guide. You do not need a referral from your Doctor.

What is MVBCN?
MVBCN is also known as Mid-Valley Behavioral Care Network. Mid-Valley Behavioral Care Network is a managed behavioral healthcare organization that offers mental health and chemical dependency services in Linn, Marion, Polk, Tillamook, and Yamhill Counties.

How long does it take to get into my first appointment?
Each agency has up to 14 days to schedule the first appointment. Our participating providers are not able to keep a “waiting list”. If a Participating Provider is not able to offer you an appointment within 14 days please notify Community and Provider Services.

I need services immediately and cannot wait two weeks for my appointment. What can I do?
If you are in crisis and need immediate services, and you are currently being seen at an agency, you need to contact that agency. If during office hours, your therapist/case manager is not available please request the “worker of the day”. If you are in crisis, after hours, and need immediate assistance, please contact the Psychiatric Crisis services (PCC) at (503) 585-4949 or 911. PCC is available 7 days a week/24 hours a day. If you are not currently enrolled and need immediate assistance, please contact PCC (503) 585-4949 or 911.

I recently moved to Marion County and have Oregon Health Plan, how do I go about finding services?
You can receive services at any of the Participating Providers in this guide. If you are new to Marion County, it is important that your Oregon Health Plan card state that you reside in Marion County. To identify if your card says this, please contact the agency that issued your Medicaid insurance for assistance in changing your address on your Oregon Health Plan card. If you reside in Marion County and your card says otherwise, then your address with Oregon Health Plan is incorrect. Please contact your local Adult or Child Welfare office to update your address.

What can I do if I can't make it to my appointments due to transportation?
Members who have Oregon Health Plan can contact Trip Link for transportation services. This agency is able to provide transportation services for medical appointments only. Please call (503) 315-5544 for information or schedule your ride(s) with Trip Link.

I want to see a psychiatrist?
There are psychiatrists available through our Participating Providers listed in this guide. If you are seeking medication you can also see a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. Our psychiatrists do not provide counseling/therapy. We have Qualified Mental Health Providers and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner’s that can provide you with ongoing counseling/therapy.

My teenager needs services, but I don't think he will go. What can I do?
A person has to be willing to participate in outpatient mental health services. Theses services are strictly voluntary. A child who is 14 and older can sign up for therapy/counseling on their own and without their parent’s consent.

My PCP wants me to get special testing for my child that your providers do not offer. What are my options?
The Oregon Health Plan does allow for specialized services. Our Participating Providers are available to provide these services. If these agencies are unable to assist you, contact Community and Provider Services at (503) 361-2778 for further assistance.

I want to go to a group that an agency other than the one I am going to offers. Is there a way to go to this group without closing/leaving the agency that I am at?
Yes, as long as the agency that has the group is a participating provider listed in this guide. To request the additional service, call your current agency/or clinician.

If I have Medicare and Oregon Health Plan can I receive services?
Yes, our participating providers listed in this guide have clinicians who can see patients who have Medicare as their primary insurance.

If have private insurance and Oregon Health Plan; can I receive services?
Yes, some of our agencies are able to see patients that have private insurance. Please contact your private insurance carrier and ask for a list of local agencies.

The court has ordered me to seek counseling, what are my options?
The Oregon Health Plan does not cover court-ordered services. If you are looking for ongoing outpatient therapy/counseling or medication services, one of our Participating Providers can help you.

I have called all of the Participating Providers listed in this guide and no one is able to see me. What can I do?
If you are unable to get an appointment within 14 days and you live in Marion County, you can contact Community and Provider Services at (503) 361-2778 for additional assistance.

What if I do not have insurance? Are there options for me?
Some of our agencies have sliding fees for clients who do not have insurance. These openings are limited. Please call the Participating Providers to discuss their services.
