Adult Abuse Investigation
Marion County Adult Abuse Investigators are trained and authorized to act as designees of the Oregon Department of Human Services, Office of Adult Abuse Prevention and Investigation (OAAPI). OAAPI Coordinators provide frequent and regular technical assistance and coaching to Adult Abuse Investigators, approve completed investigation reports, and ensure that investigations are timely, thorough, and objective.
Adult Abuse Investigators receive reports of actual or suspected abuse regarding adults with intellectual and developmental disability (IDD). Investigators screen abuse reports to determine if they meet the definition of abuse in Oregon Administrative Rule 407-045-0260 - and if so, Investigators conduct a full investigation.
Adult Abuse Investigators electronically submit an initial abuse complaint form to OAAPI immediately upon receiving a report of abuse using the Serious Event Reporting Team (SERT) web-based system.
When an abuse report is received, Investigators also assess the need for protective services. If protective services are required, the case manager is responsible for immediately providing or arranging for the provision of protective services actions.
Adult Abuse Investigators participate on the Marion County Multi-Disciplinary Team, to positively collaborate with the local District Attorney’s office; law enforcement agencies; Investigators for adults who experience mental health issues, aging, or physical disability; health care organizations; and human services groups – to better protect vulnerable adults.
