Domestic Well Safety Information
Nearly 1/4 of all Oregonians rely on private, domestic wells as their primary source of drinking water.
Domestic wells are not regulated like public water systems in Oregon. This page is provided as a resource for private well owners to aid them in maintaining and protecting their domestic water source.
Marion County Environmental Health is offering free well testing for arsenic and nitrate.
We have a limited amount of tests available and our goal is to target the areas of Marion County where these contaminants have been identified. The target areas of the county are:
- North County: including North Salem, Brooks, Gervais, Hubbard, Woodburn and Aurora
- East County: including Gates, Idanha, Detroit, Mill City and Lyons
The free testing is available to property owners in these areas who get their drinking water from a private/domestic well.
