Community Swaps are a fun way to reduce waste and share excess with others. If you would like to host a community swap or are interested in community waste reduction projects contact us at Environmental Services.

Art Supply Swap
On Saturday, June 3rd 2017, the Salem Public Library and Marion County Master Recyclers teamed up to offer a free art supply swap. Two rooms of supplies were swapped, keeping the material out of the solid waste stream and thrilling many creatives. We hope this event becomes an annual occurrence.
On Saturday, September 3rd 2016, Marion County partnered with the Salem Public Library to offer a free Blue Jeans Swap. In 2015, we also had a Homecoming Swap. Marion County is interested in hosting more swaps in the future to serve the community and reduce waste.
In 2015 we partnered with the library to host a Homecoming Clothing and Accessories swap. While we had a lot of items donated we were hoping more people would have taken advantage of the free items. Perhaps the demand is not as high enough to warrant an event or perhaps not enough people knew about it? The participants that did come loved the selection and were thrilled to take home a new to them dress or two.
