Transfer stations in Marion County are for public use. Garbage brought here is transported to the Marion County Waste-to-Energy Facility and incinerated. Energy is recovered and turned into electricity which is purchased by Portland General Electric. Compostable material goes to a commercial composting facility and is processed into a soil amendment. Recyclable items are hauled to nearby recycling markets for processing.
