Households batteries are accepted in the small red or blue curbside recycling basket.
In order to prevent batteries from accidentally “shorting out” and causing a fire, it is required that you use clear tape to cover both ends of the following types of batteries:
- Rechargeable batteries, including lithium metal (primary),
- Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) and any button cell (like watch batteries) or
- 9-volt batteries or larger.
Regular “AA” or “AAA” alkaline batteries do not need to be taped. If you aren’t sure if the battery is rechargeable, tape it to be safe.
Simply place them into a zip-sealed plastic bag, and leave on top of the basket with your other special recyclables.
