Why Worm Castings?
It takes a great deal of energy (fossil fuel) to produce chemical fertilizers. To produce organic fertilizers, the energy comes from earthworms and bacteria.
Worm castings are the final product of the decomposition process. The results can be the perfect food for plants. Perfect depends on the food fed to the worms. The more variety: the better the castings. Castings can be purchased dried or wet. Wet castings will contain more active soil organisms and are perfect for outside plantings or pottings. Research has proven that when castings are added to the soil at the time of planting, it results in improved germination and the plant viability. Many times dried castings have been added to a mixture of finished horticultural compost, coco fiber, perlite and trace minerals for a great house plant or potted plant product with equally spectacular results.
