Brown Rd Bicycle & Pedestrian Improvements Public Meeting, November 18th!
About the Project:Marion County is happy to announce that we have received grant funding to improve the County portion of Brown Rd from Arizona Av to Carolina Av, by adding bicycle lanes and sidewalks. The project includes the design and construction of sidewalks and bike lanes from Arizona Av to Carolina Av (Marion County), and from Carolina Av to San Francisco Dr (City of Salem).
Currently, residents and school children must walk in the road, along a narrow shoulder, or in the roadside ditch to get to school or other destinations. This project will improve this segment of Brown Road by allowing pedestrians and cyclists to safely share the road with vehicles. This project is very important to the neighborhood and the school district. Our survey crew has begun surveying the site in order to produce a topographic map for our design. In the coming months you will be receiving notices updating you on the progress of our design and notifying you when and where public meetings will occur. We anticipate having our first public meeting in early 2013.
Funding:This is a joint project between the City of Salem and Marion County, and is predominantly funded by federal funds through the Oregon Department of Transportation Bicycle-Pedestrian Grant Program and the Salem-Keizer Area Transportation Study.Estimated Total Project Cost is $2.4M and includes engineering, right-of-way, and construction.
