Brown Road Pedestrian and Bicycle Improvements
About the Project
Marion County received grant funding to improve the County portion of Brown Road from Arizona Avenue to Carolina Avenue, by adding bicycle lanes and sidewalks. The project includes the design and construction of sidewalks and bike lanes from Arizona Avenue to Carolina Avenue (Marion County), and from Carolina Avenue to San Francisco Drive (City of Salem).
Much of the work has been constructed, so residents and school children no longer walk in the road, along a narrow shoulder, or in the roadside ditch to get to school or other destinations.
The current schedule is to complete all of the work by June 30, 2016, except for water quality planting which will be complete in early fall of 2016.
This is a joint project between the City of Salem and Marion County, and is predominantly funded by federal funds through the Oregon Department of Transportation Bicycle-Pedestrian Grant Program and the Salem-Keizer Area Transportation Study.
Estimated Total Project Cost is $2.4M and includes engineering, right-of-way, and construction.
