The work of these companies in the County right-of-way is to be covered under County public utility permits. This work includes the distribution and service systems for electrical power, telephone, natural gas, etc. Also included are cable television systems as well as special high pressure petroleum transmission lines which cross County roads. Contractors doing work for these companies are usually covered under the permit for the public utility company. In some instances, a public utility company will allow a private entity to do a portion of the utility related work such as putting in conduit for electrical power in the right-of-way. In these cases, the private entity is required to get a "work in the right-of-way" permit from the County and then the public utility company is required to get a permit to "occupy" this conduit with electrical wire, to energize the system and to maintain the system.
