Clear some trails and cut up cottonwoods that have fallen across main road through site.

Phone conversation with Bob Hansen. We discussed sign to be erected at site by county. He would like a fax that lays out sign. I faxed him a suggestion on 3 November 1996.
Discussed connections with high schools as desirable. I had contacted Cascade H.S. and he suggested other contacts - Nan Perrego (MS Education) of Willamette University - Department of Biology
Discussed priorities at site. Bob suggested if materials are needed for this or other projects on the site, surplus materials are available at county shops. Labor is also available.

Cleared Blackberry and Scotch broom from around 1976 Ponds #2 and 3 and piled cuttings. Improved access to these small ponds.
Identified plot sites for exotic plant removal - paired plots with and without exotics.
- Forested site with English Ivy is located between 1976 Pond #1 and Stockpile Area
- Open Scotch Broom site is in question - may use site to left of 1976 Pond #3 ????
Other areas should be explored especially opposite side of larger ponds.

Met with Maggie Meinkle (sp?) of Salem Audubon Society at Environmental Group meeting at Reed Opera House to discuss SAS involvement in bird identification at site. She is quite willing - I should contact her again nearer Spring. Also contacted Tom Jenkins - Native Plant Society of Willamette Valley - on a similar note for plants. Re-establish contact later in winter to set up a field trip for survey/identification purposes.

Tom Rodgers (CCC Surveying Instructor), Ara Gardner Andrea (CCC Forestry Instructor) visit site with WWC to investigate use for their courses. Tom will use site for labs in Winter Term and have students generate maps using GPS (newly ordered/donated will arrive in mid-February 1997) and GIS. Ara may use site for Forestry field trips.
