ADOPT-A-PARK SAFETY

SAFETY IS THE FIRST PRIORITY while working in the parks. The following rules were designed to help keep you safe. Please ensure all participants have read the Adopt-A-Park safety rules. Questions should be directed to the group leader before starting work.

You must wear an orange vest at all times while working in the parks. We strongly recommend you wear leather work gloves over latex gloves.
Do not start work until the group leader has set warning signs for traffic and has given the go-ahead to start.
We encourage participants to recycle any recyclable items and those that may be redeemed for deposit.
Place large items, such as appliances, couches, etc., at a designated site.
You may come across hazardous materials in your work. These include pesticide containers, and other chemical containers, such as bags, boxes, bottles, or drums and hypodermic syringes. If you find any of these items, or anything that you cannot identify, WALK AWAY FROM IT AND CALL THE GROUP LEADER. These items should be marked with the orange flags included in the kit. At no time should you attempt to pick up any of these items. If you have already touched it before realizing what it was, wash your skin with water immediately. If available, use soap, after rinsing off your skin with water.
For your protection, use extreme caution while on park trails, bridges, swimming in parks with water access, and around the facilities of the park as appropriate.
