MARION COUNTY PARKS COMMISSION
7/9/98 Luncheon meeting held at Spongs Landing Park

Present: D. Clark, E.Caivaille, B. Hansen, R. Hari, N. McDonough, O. Rice, D. Smith

FINANCIAL STATUS:

Adopted Budget presented

Current Financial Report

An SDC (System Development Charge) consultant may be hired to develop an overall master plan for parks.
(In Stayton city developments must donate a percentage of land to park's development. The consultant can research whether the County has a development plan such as this?)

CURRENT ACTIVITIES:

Maintenance
Brushing, chipping limbs, mowing, (standard procedures.)
Two concrete tables ordered for Labish Village and Packsaddle Parks

Sheriff's office cadet program in operation, positive public response to increased visibility.

Vandalism:
Joryville: sign shot up
Paint ball usage increasing
Spongs: illegal dumping, brick fire pits damaged, picnic tables broken
Scotts Mills: graffiti,
Denny: graffiti, picnic tables broken
Evergreen: 4 wheelers tearing up turf

Park clean-up:
Spongs: via SOLV
Santana: via Houck middle school

Jory:
Corral repaired by an Eagle Scout

PARKS USE REQUESTS:

Pacific Lineman's Association requests to use St. Louis Fish Ponds as a site for an annual pole climbing competition event. The board okays this and suggests they do park improvements such as adding osprey platforms on the permanent poles they plant, mow, and put rock down.
Oregon Gardens would like to use Evergreen Park as overflow for an event they are having in August. They may be dispensing alcohol with their OLCC license. The board okayed this.

OTHER:

The Soccer Association partnership discussion has been put on hold.

Adopt-A-Park program now has six parks adopted.

Canoe camping: Discussion and walk of potential tent camping and dock facility site. Further discussion recommended.

A tour of local parks followed the business meeting.
