Update - Photovoltaic Solar Arrays
Marion County Board of Commissioners held a public hearing on March 14, 2018 to consider amendments to the Marion County Rural Zone Code adopting criteria and standards limiting the siting of photovoltaic solar arrays in the SA (Special Agriculture) and EFU (Exclusive Farm Use) zones.
Proponents and opponents of photovoltaic solar arrays, or solar farms, filled the Senator Hearing Room on March 14th to express opinions on these potential changes. Following the public hearing, the Board of Commissioners directed staff to work with the Marion County Planning Commission to gather stakeholders from both sides to come up with proposals to regulate solar farms to protect the Willamette Valley's high-value farmland. The commissioners directed the work group to complete its work before October 1.
After the ordinance imposing the moratorium is adopted on March 21, 2018, the county will not accept new solar array applications . Click here for a copy of
Ordinance #1387.
