MCSO K-9 UNIT
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit consists of seven canine teams; four are patrol teams and three are dedicated completely to narcotics detection. The team has one german shepherd, four belgian malinois and two labradors.
Patrol dogs are trained to track for suspects who have fled from crime scenes. They are also trained to conduct building and area searches for criminal suspects, protect the handler and to hold violent offenders from escaping.
The narcotics detection dogs are trained to detect narcotics substances. One is assigned to the Marion County Jail, although, he is sometimes called out to assist Detectives with search warrants or vehicle searches to locate narcotics.
The K-9 Unit routinely conducts public demonstrations at schools, churches or community events. If you would like to request a canine demonstration contact the Sheriff’s Office at 503-588-7981 or click on Misty and Dep. Landers (at right).
