The Visiting Process - GENERAL RULES AND PROCEDURES

· CHECK-IN: Visitors must arrive at the Jail Visiting Lobby during the designated sign-up times listed in the visiting schedule. Visits are 30 minutes in length and are non-contact in nature.

IDENTIFICATION IS REQUIRED FOR EVERY VISIT AND NUMBER OF VISITORS ALLOWED:

All adult visitors must have a CURRENT Federal or state issued ID, Drivers’ License, or Passport. Visitors under the age of 18 MUST be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian or other authorized person throughout the duration of the visit. Minors MUST also have an original birth certificate and/or medical card with their parent/legal guardian’s name and child’s name on it in order to visit each time. Minors between 15 and 18 years old must also have a CURRENT State issued ID, or Student Body Card. Only 1 adult or 1 adult and 1 minor (17 yrs. old and younger) can visit an inmate at any one time.

No children / minors (17 yrs. old and younger) will be left without adult supervision in the upstairs visiting areas, line-up room, or in the visiting lobby.

VISITOR REVIEW:

All visitors will be run for Wants and Warrants prior to their visit.

The following individuals will not be allowed to visit inmates in the Jail:

Visitors who have been convicted of introducing contraband into a correctional facility.

Visitors who have been convicted of assisting in an escape.

Visitors who have been incarcerated in any Jail or Correctional facility within the past 90 days.

Visitors who have pending unresolved criminal action being taken against them.

Visitors who are on Parole or Probation.

Visitors who are under a legal order not to have contact with an inmate or staff member in the Marion County Jail.

Visitors who want to visit an inmate who has been legally ordered not to have contact with the visitor; this includes visitors who request to visit their assailants.

Visitors who jail staff reasonably believes are under the influence of intoxicants.

ALL VISITORS MUST CLEAR THE METAL DETECTOR: Unless a medical card listing a legitimate reason for not clearing the metal detector is presented, and/or otherwise authorized by the Administrative Sergeant. Pockets will be emptied before going through the metal detector. No items will be allowed to be taken in for the visit, including but not limited to:

Writing materials (i.e. pen, pencil, paper, notebooks), electronic devices (i.e. personal computers, cell phones, pagers) or tobacco-related products (cigarettes, matches, or lighters).

Sharp objects (knives, fingernail clippers, collapsible scissors, etc.), weapons, ammunition or explosives.

Personal food and drinks are not permitted in the visiting lobby, visiting waiting room or visiting booths. Smoking or the use of tobacco products are not allowed in any county building. Vending machine items may be consumed in the lobby.

Pornographic material will not be permitted

One plastic baby bottle and/or pacifier, one diaper and one blanket are permitted.

VISITORS MUST BE PROPERLY ATTIRED:

DRESS CODE

For Marion County Jail Visitors

Clothing worn in this facility must be conservative in nature. Clothing that is unduly suggestive or tight fitting, similar to inmate attire, or creates a security hazard is not allowed.

Clothing must not expose an undue amount of flesh and must not be see through. The body must be covered from 2 inches above the knee cap to the shoulders. Clothing may not expose any cleavage or the back below the shoulder blades. Thighs and mid-section must be covered.

Allowed Clothing for Visitors (including children):

Jeans / Slacks Any color

Skirts / Shorts No higher than 2” above knee

Slit Skirts / Slit Dresses Length and slit no higher than 2” above Knee

Dresses / Jumpers No low cut necklines

No higher than 2” above kneecap.

T-Shirts No low cut necklines.

Sweatshirts No low cut necklines.

Sweaters No low cut necklines.

SHOES AND UNDERGARMENTS MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES

Clothing NOT Allowed for Visitors (including children):

No Hats: Accommodations may be made on a case-by-case basis for religious headgear consistent with established security practices.

No Coats or Jackets

No Halter Tops / Halter Top Dresses

No Wrap-Around Skirts / Wrap-Around Shirts

No Tube Tops or Tank Tops

No Overalls or Coveralls

No clothing that exposes skin (e.g., chest, back, thighs, or midsection)

No see-through clothing, including sheer and loose weave fabrics.

No insignias or paraphernalia associated with street gangs.

It shall be within the discretionary authority of Marion County Sheriff’s Office staff to determine the appropriateness for visitation, of any attire not specifically prohibited by policy.

PROHIBITED CONDUCT (conduct which may cause your visit to be cancelled and your visiting privileges to be terminated):

Flashing, exposing of oneself or sexually explicit behavior is strictly prohibited and will result in termination of visit in progress and the loss of future visiting privileges.

Loud or profane speech.

Inability to control one’s self or children.

Convicted of Introduction of Contraband.

Convicted of Assisting with an Escape.

Disorderly conduct.

Being under the influence of any intoxicant.

Giving false information.

Damaging or defacing county property.

It shall be within the discretionary authority of Marion County Sheriff’s Office staff to determine the appropriateness of the conduct of all visitors and reserves the right to remove visiting privileges temporarily or indefinitely.

MOBILITY IMPAIRED INMATES AND/OR VISITORS:

Inmates or visitors who require the use of a wheelchair, crutches, walkers, canes, and/or who have a serious medical condition may have their visits take place on the first floor of the facility in our line-up room. You are required to reserve the line-up room ahead of time. These visits may take place on the inmate’s normal visiting day and all visiting rules still apply.

VISITOR PROPERTY:

The Jail is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Please secure your property prior to your visit. We recommend the following:

Lock all items in your car.

Leave items with a friend or family member.

Leave items at home.

Leave items in the unlocked cabinets provided in lobby (the Jail does not accept any responsibility for the items stored in these cabinets).
