PRIMARY SERVICE
A residential Work Center for offenders sentenced to the Work Center as a condition of their probation or by the courts.
OTHER SERVICES
Assists Parole and Probation Officers with clients who need a structured setting or lack housing in the community by allowing offenders to "board" at the center. The maximum number of boarders at a given time is five.
Staffed around the clock, the Work Center provides an intermediate sanction between Jail and Probation. Unlike the Corrections Facility, the center provides minimum-security supervision. Center residents are expected to work, either at their own jobs, or by performing community services. They must pay any court ordered fines, restitution, supervision fees and when applicable, family and/or child support. "In-house" sanctions include removal/denial of passes, room restriction, assignment to work crews, etc. External sanctions include returning to court, program termination and commitment to Jail or State Prison.
The Work Center provides:
A sanction for the courts
Alternative to Jail
Parole and Probation intervention tool
Emergency population release valve for the Jail
The Work Center, a residential co-ed facility, serves sentenced offenders in the following categories:
Work release (inmates transferred from the Jail)
Offenders sentenced by the courts
Probation/Parole violation (in lieu of Jail or Prison)
The Work Center is able to house 144 offenders.
The Work Center acts as a transitional program to ready inmates for release to the community. Three to four months is the recommended length of stay.
Costs
Offenders may be asked to pay housing costs.
As the name suggests, "work" is the primary theme. Offenders maybe able to continue their employment. The offenders pay a maintenance fee to help offset the cost of their confinement.
