The Marion County Sheriff’s Office strongly recommends that the personal property in your residence, vehicles, boats and shed be inventoried. In the event of a burglary, having this information makes it easier for you to let us know what property was stolen.When the Marion County Sheriff’s Office investigates a burglary, a property loss form is required for our report to document your stolen property. A deputy can leave a property form with you at the time of the investigation, which can be later mailed or delivered to the Sheriff’s Office. Completing this form ahead of time ensures that no stolen property is overlooked. In addition to completing an inventory of your personal property, the items can be photographed and sales receipts saved, which is important for items without serial numbers. The inventory list, together with any photographs and receipts, should be placed in a secure location or safety deposit box.
