Statement from Sheriff Jason Myers and District Attorney Walt Beglau

    Posted by: Sheriff's Office

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the citizens of Dallas, Texas, and all hurting communities across this nation. We grieve together. Today, we also honor each and every law enforcement officer and the vital and important role they play in our society. Our communities are grateful for their service to this indispensable profession.

As Sheriff and District Attorney, we stand committed to the safety and well-being of the citizens and visitors of Marion County and Oregon. We will continue our pledge to ensure that justice is served and that each person is treated with dignity and respect. It is our duty to ensure that only individuals of the highest moral character are chosen to serve the community through this profession, and they are trained to be culturally competent and to first seek every opportunity to de-escalate the difficult and complex situations they face every day. We are very confident in these men and women who protect and serve our community.

Please remember that our law enforcement officers are members of our community too. They coach, they volunteer, they attend our churches, their children attend our schools, and they live and play in our community. They, like you and I, want the very best for our community. They are committed, invested and loyal to this cause and our community.

These are difficult times across this nation. Like you, we are saddened and angered by these events. These feelings reflect our grief and desire to help, but we must seize this point in time to come together, unite and become better. All of us. Our resolve is driven by the incredible strength of our community, and the individual commitment of each one of you.

We ask that if you have a concern or a question, please reach out to us. Open and honest dialogue is the best venue to air concerns and to find resolutions. We stand committed to community engagement on any public safety issue or concerns that impacts our community.

In closing, if you see a law enforcement professional out in our community, please take the time to thank them. They have an incredibly difficult job.
