    Repair Fair and Share Event

Posted by: Public Works - Environmental Services

Marion County is partnering with The Northwest Hub and volunteer "fixers" to host a Repair Fair & Share event on Saturday, January 14, 2017, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. The event will be held at The Northwest Hub, which is located at 1230 Broadway Street NE in Salem.

Embracing "repair rather than replace," the goal of the event is to provide community connections that not only provides free repair service, but promotes troubleshooting and waste reduction. Event organizers hope to inspire and enable people to continue repairing and sharing in their community. "Shifting our relationship toward what we think of as disposable on the smallest levels is vital to big, structural shifts in sustainability and ecological policy," says Kimberly Fanshier, a Repair Fair & Share Coordinator. The community will benefit by making connections, learning skills, reducing waste, and saving money. Kirk Seyfert, director of The Northwest Hub, added, "Learning how to maintain the things you need in order to thrive is very empowering."

This is the third Repair Fair & Share event. The Repair Fair & Share is always looking for repair volunteers, fixers, and supporters, as well as participants to help with the event.
