Many everyday household products contain hazardous chemicals which need to be handled and disposed properly. Items labeled Danger, Warning, Caution, or Poison should not be tossed in your residential garbage, as this increases the potential for release of these substances into the environment which can cause serious illness or harm the environment if not disposed of safely.
Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) is accepted free of charge from residents of Marion County and surrounding Oregon counties. Please bring your household hazardous materials in the original retail containers with good fitting lids. Please place the materials into a box to keep it from tipping over and spilling during transit.
Residents with containers of hazardous waste materials larger than 5 gallons or multiple containers of any one substance must receive written approval from Marion County prior to delivery at the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility (HHW). Please download and complete the
HHW Large Quantity Acceptance Form.pdf. If you have questions, contact Don Alexander at (503) 588-5169 Ext. 5919 or dalexander@co.marion.or.us
Business Hazardous Waste is also accepted at the HHW. Hazardous Waste from small businesses or Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generators (CESQG) can use the facility; however they will be charged by the pound of hazardous waste ($100.00 minimum).
In order to participate, businesses must pre-register with the County's hazardous waste contractor (Clean Harbors) by completing the
CEG Application Marion County 10-2-14.pdf and mail, fax or e-mail the completed application to Clean Harbors Environmental Services within 2 weeks of the scheduled delivery date. Fees are charged based on the type and amount of waste accepted in accordance with the Waste Pricing. Businesses using the facility must make an appointment by calling the appointment hotline (1-503-742-7105).
