Oregon Together Groups
Oregon Together Groups follow the Communities that Care model developed by J. David Hawkins and Richard F. Catalano. Using this model, the Oregon Together groups identify community needs and then tailor their alcohol and drug use prevention efforts to meet these needs. Their focus is to increase protective factors and decrease risk factors in their communities, which research has shown to be an effective strategy in preventing substance abuse. Oregon Together groups receive training in the science of prevention in order to effectively carry out their activities.
Through the Oregon Department of Human Services, Marion County funds four Oregon Together Groups, who have been in place since the early 1990’s.
