Cold Case Squad
Formed in 2004, the Cold Case Squad's sole focus is to investigate unsolved homicide cases that occurred within Marion County. Four investigators on the Squad have a combined 120 years of law enforcement experience at the local, state and federal level.
Investigating a cold case homicide involves a lengthy process of reviewing old case reports and then following up on new leads developed by investigators. Advances in science and technology have lead to new ways to identify offenders through DNA and advanced fingerprint analysis. Even with all of the available technology at their disposal, cold case investigators often rely on the techniques that have cleared so many cases: getting out on the street and talking to people. Despite the advances in forensic science, experience has shown that the vast majority of cold cases are solved by personal contact with citizens. People who come forward with information that they may not have considered significant -- or that they were not in a position to previously provide to investigators -- hold the key to resolving these cases.
The purpose of these web pages is to provide
a brief background on the cold cases currently under investigation, and to provide a way for the public to furnish information to the Cold Case Squad on these or any other unsolved homicide. Citizens are encouraged to submit information using the
Cold Case Squad tip form, or to contact the Cold Case Squad investigators at (503)-540-8006. Investigators will pursue leads submitted anonymously; however, providing your contact information will permit investigators to ask follow-up questions, and contact you in the event reward monies are available.
