As evacuation levels are reduced many public and private forest lands remain closed to public access. Before entering private and public forest lands, residents need to confirm if the area has been reopened to public access, regardless of the evacuation level. This information may be found by visiting websites for the U.S. Forest Service, Oregon Department of Forestry, and by contacting private landowners. Additionally, some roadways may remain closed for repairs and inspection. Travel on OR 22E between Gates and Detroit/Idanha continues to be by pilot car only, no through access to Santiam Pass via OR 22E is available at this time. Up to date pilot car schedules can be found at tripcheck.com.

We want to remind community members to remain vigilant and to watch for remaining hazards in impacted areas.

    • Numerous fire damaged trees remain near roadways and properties. These trees may fall at any time. Remain vigilant and be prepared to deal with downed trees on the road.

    • Watch out for falling rocks and debris in the roadway.

    • Do not approach downed power lines.

    • Drive slowly! Be watchful for personnel working in the roadway as road cleanup and utility repairs are still ongoing.

    • Keep a safe distance from septic tanks and other buried structures that may have been damaged in the fire.

    • All county parks located within the fire zone are closed.

    • Comply with roadway signs and instructions provided by road crews, utility workers and law enforcement.
