Posted by: Health and Human Services

As part of National Public Health Week, April 4-10, the Marion County Health Department will showcase public health services that help with the goal of making the U.S. the Healthiest Nation in One Generation by 2030.  The photo project will feature local programs and events that promote healthy lifestyles on the Health Department's social media networks.

To participate in photo project, "Like" the Health Department on Facebook: www.facebook.com/MarionCountyHealth or "Follow" the Health Department on Twitter: @MarionCo_Health.  The photos will be posted on the Health Department's Facebook and Twitter pages at various times each day and will incorporate daily themes:

    • Help all Young People to Graduate from High School: Education is the leading indicator of good health, giving people access to better jobs, incomes and neighborhoods.
    • Social Justice and Health: Everyone has the right to good health. We must remove barriers so everyone has the same opportunity to improve their lives and their health.
    • Give Everyone a Choice of Healthy Food: Our food system should provide affordable food with nutritious ingredients, free from harmful contaminants.
    • Provide Quality Health Care for Everyone: Health reform was just a start. To fulfill its potential, we must continue to pursue options for expanded access to quality care at the federal, state and local levels.
    • Strengthen Public Health Infrastructure /Preparing for Health Effects of Climate Change: Our health is connected to our environments. What happens upstream to our environments at work, school and home affects our health downstream.

In addition to National Public Health Week being observed every year in communities across the United States during the first full week of April, the Marion County commissioners have proclaimed the week of April 4-10 as Public Health Week in Marion County.

The theme for this year's event, the Healthiest Generation by 2030, focuses on guiding communities through the evolving public health system. The goal of this movement is to raise awareness about public health and prevention and celebrate the important role of public health in communities across the country.
