This fall, the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) expects to have up to $500,000 available for grants. Any local government responsible for solid waste management may apply, including cities, counties, metropolitan service districts, regional parks districts, tribes, sanitary districts, and county service districts. Local governments may receive grants to conduct their own projects, or they may partner with other public or private entities or individuals.
DEQ Materials Management Grants are for projects to prevent, reuse, and recover solid and household hazardous wastes. Proposals must demonstrate their potential for reducing environmental impacts from materials, ability to continue after funding ends, program commitment, need, cost effectiveness and ability to measure results. Grants addressing food waste recovery, plastics recovery, multi-tenant materials recovery, and waste prevention and reuse will be given higher preference.
If you would like to partner with Marion County to apply for a DEQ grant, you will need to attend one mandatory meeting. Meetings are on Tuesday, October 6 at 12:00 p.m. and Thursday, October 8 at 6:00 p.m. at the Marion County Public Works Department, 5155 Silverton Rd NE, Salem, OR 97305. Grant requests for $5,000 and more will be considered for partnership.
Grant application materials are now available at www.mcrecycles.net. Applications must be submitted electronically in Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF format only and attached to an email. If electronic submission is not possible, please deliver to the Marion County Public Works Department, 5155 Silverton Rd NE, Salem, OR 97305. The deadline for all grant applications is 10:00 a.m. PST, November 2, 2015.
