Warming centers for residents without power to open Tuesday

Posted by: Public Works - Emergency Management

In cooperation with Marion County, the Salem Evangelical Church and St. Edward Catholic Church will open warming centers on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021, for area residents still without power. Both locations will provide a safe place to warm up and charge electronics. COVID-19 physical distancing protocols will be in place and KN95 masks and hand sanitizer will be provided to guests.

    Salem Evangelical Church
    455 Locust St. NE, Salem
    Opens at 10 a.m.

    Saint Edward Catholic Church
    5303 River Road N, Keizer
    Opens at Noon

Both warming centers will be open as day centers with no overnight accommodations. Guests will be encouraged to stop in to warm up, have a snack, and charge electronics then depart to allow room for additional guests. Reservations are not needed to access the warming centers.

Both warming centers plan to open as necessary until power is restored. Additional updates will be provided as more information is available.

Marion County is grateful for this partnership with our faith community and appreciates their generosity in opening their doors to our community members.

In addition, the ARCHES day use center is open and the Salem Warming Network will activate locations for unsheltered residents if temperatures drop below the 32 degrees. Sites are open 7 p.m. to 6:45 a.m. during activation. Locations for warming centers include Salem First Presbyterian, Capital Park Wesleyan Church, and South Salem Friends Church.
