New Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteerism plays an important role here at Marion County, helping to build our relationship with citizens while building our capacity to deliver important services and supports. We are fortunate as we benefit from a community committed to civic engagement, and many volunteers make significant contribution in time, energy and expertise.
Marion County offers a wide variety of program and event volunteer opportunities, as well as opportunities to serve on an advisory boards, committee or task force. Opportunities vary by department, and by the time of the year, and evolve.

Spotlight on a current volunteer opportunities:

Compensation Board - Deadline extended to February 14th!
As a member of the Compensation Board you'll meet 2-3 times a year to review and recommend salaries for the county's nine elected officials, including the Assessor, County Clerk, District Attorney, Sheriff, Treasurer, Justice of the Peace and three Commissioners. Members of the Compensation Board serve a one-year term with potential for re-appointment to additional terms. Those applying for the board must be knowledgeable in the areas of personnel and compensation management and must reside or work in Marion County. Individuals employed by the county are not eligible to serve on the Compensation Board. Once selected, board members will attend an orientation session on the responsibilities of this board. To be considered for a position on the 2025 Compensation Board complete the Advisory Board Application and submit no later than 11:59pm, Friday, January 31, 2025 Deadline extended to February 14th!
Justice of the Peace Pro-Tempore
Justice Court is the court closest to the people of Marion County, providing quick, accessible, and inexpensive access to justice. The court hears cases such as traffic or county ordinance violations, FED actions (evictions) and some civil disputes. Marion County Board of Commissioners have the authority to appoint one or more Justice of the Peace Pro Tempore who may preside over hearings when the elected Justice of the Peace is unavailable or has a professional conflict with a particular case. Qualified lawyers are invited to apply for this volunteer position which serves the Marion County Justice of the Peace District.
