Benefits of Walking

Walking is a great physical activity that improves your health by reducing the probabilities of chronic disease such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol level, overweight, obesity, and depression. Walking also improves your mood, self-esteem, and circulatory system among others.
The American Heart Association recommends 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per week. The following are ways to increase your physical activity are:
- using stairs instead of the elevator
- parking your car far from the store
- walking your child to school
- walking in the park
- walking to the grocery store.
Walking is a complete exercise and it does not require special equipment or a club membership. You can walk by yourself, with your family members, relatives, friends, neighbors, and/or a pet. To ensure the success of your walking, warm-up, and stretch before walking, and cool-down and stretch again after walking. Choose comfortable clothing, and appropriate for the weather conditions. Wear bright colors when walking in daytime and wear light-colored and reflective clothing to be visible at night. Stay aware of your surroundings, and know when to stop.
Walking is safe for all ages and physical conditions. Keep yourself safe by recognizing the symptoms of dehydration, heart attack, and heat sickness. Contact your medical provider or emergency number if you experience any of the symptoms.

Beneficios de Caminar
! Caminar es una actividad que le permite mejor su salud al reducir la probabilidad de presentar enfermedades crónicas tal como presión alta, colesterol alto, sobrepeso, obesidad, o depresión. Caminar también mejora su estado de ánimo, autoestima, y sistema circulatorio entre otros.
La Asociación Americana del Corazón recomienda 150 minutos de actividad física moderada a intensa por semana. Las siguientes son maneras de aumentar su actividad física:
- usando las escaleras en lugar del ascensor
- estacionando tu carro lejos de la tienda
- caminar a tu hijo (a) a la escuela
- caminar en el parque
- caminando a la tienda.
Caminar es un ejercicio complete y no requiere equipo especial o una membresía al club. Puedes caminar tu solo, con miembros de tu familia, parientes, amigos, vecinos, y/o tu mascota. Para garantizar el éxito de tu caminata, practica ejercicios de calentamiento y estiramiento antes de caminar, y enfriamiento y estiramiento después de caminar. Escoge una vestidura cómoda y adecuada para la temporada. Usa colores brillantes al caminar durante el día y usa ropa de color claro y reflexivo para ser visible de noche.
Caminar es seguro para todas las edades y condiciones físicas. Mantente fuera de peligro reconociendo los síntomas de la deshidratación, ataque al corazón, o insolación. Contacta a tu proveedor médico o al número de emergencia si usted experimenta algunos de los síntomas.
