North Fork Road Gateway Improvements
Marion County has received federal funding to improve the recreation permit purchase area on North Fork Road. The area currently uses the old narrow North Fork Right-of-Way, forcing permit purchasers to decelerate on the road, exit their vehicle to purchase permits, and attempt to safely rejoin traffic on the main road.
This project will provide a deceleration lane for permit purchasers exiting North Fork Rd, a kiosk to view corridor recreation information, and allow both lanes of permit purchasers to remain in their vehicle while purchasing permits and then rejoin North Fork Rd traffic safely due to a realigned intersection.
Stormwater treatment facilities will be developed, and native plants will be installed in the areas where the old Right-of-Way is decommissioned.
Schedule
The project is currently in design with David Evans and Associates, Inc. and will be open for bid in late summer/fall of 2025. Construction is expected in 2026, however the actual schedule will be determined by the successful bidder.
Funding
Congressionally Directed Spending funds along with County matching funds will be used to construct the upgrades. The total project cost for engineering and construction is estimated at $1,604,814.
